We have taken care of all the needs of our drummers, starting from beginners to professionals. You will never regret having this fantastic monster in your band. Other drums such as the collector s series have 1/36 inch veneers, but it has a slightly thicker veneer measuring 1/32″ (0.88mm) slices when it comes to design series. This makes a thicker shell wall, thus eliminating the use of reinforcing hoops used in other DW’s drums. Therefore, we need to look at the review of this design series to help others get the best. It is always my dream that everybody gets the best drums and takes his/her career to the next level.
Design 4-Piece Kit
This is the process of how different orientation grains are used to construct the shells. The DW Design series has become incredibly due to this fact becoming a favourite among many drummers. MusicRadar's got your back Our team of expert musicians and producers spends hours testing products to help you choose the best music-making gear for you. I’ve been obsessed with drums and percussion (especially all the gear) since day one of playing. Some of my favorite players include Steve Gadd, Simon Phillips, Tony Williams, Art Blakey, Dave Grohl, Dave Weckl, Neil Peart, and many others.
DW Design Series Review:
With three unique versions of the kit on offer, it caters to a wide variety of situations. Someone who gigs every night could get the compact version while someone who has a cool lighting setup could get the acrylic version. The standard version is the most versatile, working for every situation you can think of. The kit uses the famous True-Pitch tuning rods and snare MAG throw-off. The True-Pitch Tuning rods make tuning the drums incredibly easy, allowing you to get the right tones you need from all the drums.
Best Drum Solos of All Time (Live & Studio Performances)
The DW Design Series also features some interesting extras to help spice up your kit. Considering this is just audio from a GoPro, they do sound incredible. The DW Design Series Acrylic kits have a fat sound and are worth considering if you are looking for something a bit different. The shells are constructed using DW’s HVLT™ technology that you will find on the premium DW Collectors Series Kits.
Who has the DW Design Series been designed for?
These feature on the premium line DW Collectors Series kits. They have minimal contact with the shell allowing them to resonate freely. DW has become known for creating incredible hardware as well as drums. For example, the DW 9000 Bass Drum Pedal is considered one of the best chain drive pedals amongst drummers.
The DW Design Series Rata Toms are made from 5mm acrylic shells. Concert toms seem to be going through a rival at the moment and these would make a nice addition to any kit. They are a mini turret lug which is the same in appearance as the lugs you will see on the Collectors Series Kits. This allows more of the shell finish to be shown whilst maintaining the classic DW aesthetic.
Key Features:
From hand-sprayed lacquer to satin oil, all DW kits can be customized with finishes to make it yours. The DW Design Series snare is the ultimate dream snare of every drummer. The snare measures 6.5 inches by 14 inches and sports a 1-millimeter bead-reinforced, all-brass shell and is fitted with pro features. The toms are well focused, and each strike comes with plenty of attacks different from each of the previous strikes that aid articulation. After the first attack, the tom gives a deep, powerful boom sound followed by an overtone that fades away slowly and evenly.

Due to this these kits are ideal for a wide range of musical applications and genres. The DW Design Series has been designed for players of an intermediate to a pro-level. They feature everything that you love from the premium DW Drums, such as the DW PurpleCore, but at a reduced cost. These transparent drums look great on stages and allow lighting to pass through them to get many cool effects.
DW Design Series Frequent Flyer Kit review
For this drum kit, I can promise you will get value for your money. If you have always wanted to add a gong drum to your kit but didn’t want something that took up too much room, this is an option for you. This features everything you find on the design series bass drum but with only one head and tom mount. The Gretsch Renown comes in at a very similar price to the DW Design Series kit. The Renown has 7-ply maple shells that give it each drum a fairly bold sound. These hoops are used in Gretsch’s top-quality kits and they’re very flexible, allowing for a better sound.
It’s very impressive because these drums look and sound incredible. Replacing these for coated alternatives rolls off some of the attack and allows more of the wood to shine through in each note. DW's finely-threaded True-Pitch tuning rods are found on all of the drums, and the snare and toms have 2.3mm triple-flanged hoops while matching wood hoops complete the bass drum. Owing to DW's preferred Imperial measurements, shell thicknesses translate roughly as 6.32mm for the toms and bass drum and 7.9mm for the snare. Bearing edges are cut at DW's customary 45° with a small backcut.
Retro-style swing-out bass drum spurs save both weight and cost while the all-aluminium floor tom legs (from DW's Jazz Series) trim a few further pounds. Though many hours were spent finalising the 20"x12" bass drum's depth it was, ironically, the size that Peter Erskine suggested from the outset. Meanwhile the 14"x11" floor tom is, in essence, a power-depth rack tom reconfigured with legs.
The DW Design Series maple kits are made with 100% American maple. Due to the extra thickness of the plies you end up with a thicker shell, this means these kits don’t feature a reinforcement hoop inside them. The DW Design Series aims to give you that quality at an affordable price point. There are many lower-tier pro kits on the market and the DW Design Series is one of the standout options.
The Black Satin finish in this DW Design Series review is striking, and makes a strong impression. The chrome hardware really jumps off the shells and I personally enjoy the smaller Mini-Turret lugs DW has opted for the Design Series drums. You do not have to use a lot of energy operating it because it is well designed for you.
However, judging by the strong hints of DW's vice-president of marketing, we don't think it will be too long before we see the new series expanded. The Design Series also offers a wide range of add-on drums to expand the size of your kit. The DW Design kit is an affordable alternative to some of Drum Workshop’s more expensive catalog. We all know that DW makes fantastic sounding drums, so it’s nice to see a somewhat-affordable line of kits. In fact, the standard of build is practically faultless compared to the drums built in DW’s USA factory. The Taiwanese workers must be incredibly skilled because these drums are phenomenal.
The DW Design Series snare is the ultimate drum for sonic and visual impact. All the drumheads of the design series are in a reasonable state of tuning except the kick drum. The first thing to do is fit the two supplied BDF2 dampening pillows and ensure that both drums are on the kick. According to DW’s vice president and co-founder John Good, the horizontal outer ply gives the Design Series an initial attack and articulation. This HVLT shell construction is unique to this new design series, making the series remarkable.
